On July 10th, the refrigerator industry witnessed a significant breakthrough. The China Household Electrical Appliances Research Institute, in collaboration with China Home Appliance Institute (Beijing) Testing & Certification Co., Ltd., officially awarded the first batch of IEC Refrigerator Preservation International Standard Certification certificates. Haier's Huiyue, Boguan, Mayang series, as well as Casarte's Jianshang, Zhenjing series products passed the test and became the industry's "first batch of compliant" products.

With so many refrigerator brands, only Haier has reached the standard at present. How strict is the IEC Refrigerator Preservation International Standard? Two points are crucial: weight loss rate and condensation. Let's start with the weight loss rate. If the weight loss rate is high when vegetables and fruits are stored in the refrigerator, the water is lost, and the nutrition follows. Some ordinary refrigerators have a high cold storage weight loss rate of up to 29.21g/24h, and vegetables and fruits will wither after a few days. In this certification, products that meet the IEC Refrigerator Preservation International Standard are required to have a weight loss rate not exceeding 10g/24h. The products submitted by Haier refrigerators for this test all far exceed the standard, with Haier Huiyue refrigerator showing almost zero water loss in 24 hours.

Next, let's talk about condensation. Although water loss is not conducive to the storage of vegetables and fruits, if the humidity in the refrigerator is too high, the water vapor evaporated from the vegetables and fruits will condense in the refrigerator storage drawer, which will also lead to the spoilage of vegetables and fruits, which is what we often say "soured". This requires that the refrigerator, while maintaining humidity, also "breathes" well.

Why can Haier refrigerators meet such strict requirements? The answer lies in the core preservation technology – Oxygen-barrier Dry and Wet Separation Storage Technology. In the wet area, its HCS Ecosystem Plant Film Technology combines "oxygen-barrier" with "humidity control", which can automatically regulate the balance of water and gas, maintaining humidity at an appropriate 90% around, effectively preventing dehydration of vegetables and fruits, and also preventing condensation. Vegetables and fruits stored for 7 days can still be as fresh as the first day, with a weight loss rate ≤3%.

In addition to cold storage preservation, Haier has also solved the pain points of fresh meat and frozen food storage. Through innovative Magnetic Control Full Space Preservation Technology, Haier refrigerator achieves that fresh meat can be stored in the refrigerator for 10 days and still be red and tender, can be cut at any time, and salmon can be stored in the refrigerator for 7 days and still meet the standards for raw food. Sea fish and shrimp can be stored in the freezer for 60 days and still be as fresh as the first day.

The latest IEC Refrigerator Preservation International Standard was released at the end of 2024 and was held in Beijing in March this year. The formulation and revision of this standard were led by Haier refrigerator, making it the first refrigerator industry international standard formulated by a Chinese brand and also the first refrigerator preservation standard in the 119-year history of IEC. It fills the gap in the specific preservation effect judgment of the global refrigerator industry and has been adopted by more than 30 countries around the world.

The implementation of this standard is of great significance to both consumers and the industry. For consumers, buying a truly preserved refrigerator is no longer a problem. They don't have to be deceived by various colorful advertisements. As long as they see this certification, it is a great guarantee. For the industry, having a higher standard will also force enterprises to continuously improve preservation technology. More and more brands will accelerate their pace of innovation and move towards the direction of reaching the standard.
